Question by Cheese: What is a good site to look at tattoo designs? (or maybe design my own?)?
So my boyfriend wants to get a tattoo and wants my help with it. He wants a phoenix either beneath one of his shoulders (in the corners of his back) or in the top center of his back. He doesn’t want it to be too big and would like it to have red flames (not just black)… and I don’t want it too be too much… we found a couple of designs we kind of like but none of them were “the one.” Any advice?

Therefore the piece of sheet metal is cut using the process of blanking in a mechanical press then bent in a press brake. This is a highly automated method which allows for a production rate of up to 1500 units per minute.

The torsion spring in this staple remover is a standardised component that appears in many other products such as clothes pegs. It has two loops and is made of Chrome-plated Steel. They are mass produced by a spring winding machine which cold winds wire around an arbour before heat treating to make it harder. The spring is then chrome plated. The machinery to do this is large, expensive, but has a high production rate. That is why the springs are usually bought off-the-shelf from a tier 1 supplier rather than produced in house. The material, steel is an excellent choice for this use, as there is a point of minimum stress where continued use (opening and closing the staple remover) will not cause failure through fatigue.

The plastic grips are in fact unnecessary and the device could still be operated without them. They provide enhanced ergonomics so the user does not have to press their fingers against sheet metal. Injection moulding of thermoplastics are normally used through the use of an automated injection moulding machine, which shoots liquid plastic into a mould where it is left to set. Such processing is commonplace, not very labour intensive, cheap and capable of producing high quantities. Plastic is used as it is the easiest, but also the cheapest and most readily available material that can be formed into such fluid shapes.

The pin axle provides a cylindrical bar from which the blades can rotate. It is made of Stainless Steel, which will not rust in areas that have been worn by contact with other metals. The process to create such a pin axle is quite intensive and hence it is bought off-the-shelf from a supplier. They are made by a specialised machine which cuts thick wire into a suitable length and then die punches the head of the pin, the supplier normally runs specialised machinery that is capable of producing large amounts of products at a high rate for a low cost.

I’ve decided to get my first tattoo, and since I’m going for it, I’m going all-out (to me, at least).

This is my first rough design, and it’s based aroud our Family Crest, with the critical inclusions being the red lion, the boar’s head, the fleurs-de-lis, the 3 green, five-leafed Potentilla rose plants, the iris, and the motto "Juncta arma decori," which means "arms united to glory."

The numbers at the top are the birth years of my Dad, Mom, Brother, Sister, me, and then my wife.

I’ll be making an appoinmet with one of the artists at High Voltage Tattoo in Hollywood, CA — but I haven’t decided which one yet.

I’m also deciding where, exactly, I’ll get it — but I’m leaning toward all around my right shoulder or right, upper shoulder/back area.

We’ll see…

F/X TV commercial advertisements and his work for Barany Artists. Eli crafted prosthetic molds on Broadway in NYC for the Paramount Theatre for productions ‘Beauty and The Beast’,’ A Christmas Carol’, and ‘Wizard of Oz’.

Eli received his B.F.A in Industrial Design Technology in 1995, and has been perfecting his craft for over a decade.

I’ve had designs I couldn’t find anywhere either.
If you have a tattoo place in mind you can go and ask for a consultation – that’s what I did with my last one. That way you can also check out the artists work and see if their style works with yours. And don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions and really talk to them to get things right.

Try writing down a list of things you have seen that you like or ideas you were throwing around to go over with them – if you try to pull it all from memory you’ll end up leaving only to remember something really cool as soon as you’re gone.

If you have a specific pair of heels that you like, I would bring them in to a shop and have the artist draw up a rendition. Honestly… I would do some sort of pin up design (not trashy) but with a fancy dress and some sexy heels. Or classic Marilyn Monroe
